Acting Responsibly and Developing Sustainably
Loto-Québec consolidated its sustainable development efforts in 2005. In so doing, the Corporation reinforced the numerous practices it already had in place and integrated various new initiatives in order to tangibly and proactively meet the expectations of the various parties concerned.
In November 2006, Loto-Québec officially adopted a comprehensive sustainable development policy (in French only) [PDF Format, 288 KB - Help, online as of April 25, 2007, last update on June 12, 2007] encompassing economic, social and environmental dimensions alike, as well as its corporate responsibility initiatives. This policy was also designed to fully satisfy the terms and conditions of the Bill sanctioned by the Québec Government in April 2006. In joining the 130 public organizations that have committed to concrete sustainable development strategies, the Corporation is among those organizations leading the way in this effort.
The Government of Québec defines sustainable development as:
…development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations to satisfy their own needs. Sustainable development is based on a long-term vision that takes the inseparable environmental, social and economic dimensions of development activities into account.
At Loto-Québec, sustainable development is the fruit of the dynamism and dedication of the Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Committee, which oversees all aspects of this initiative while mobilizing the support and contribution of personnel at every level of the organization.
