Video Lottery: Encouraging Responsible Gaming Behaviour

In every sector of activity at Loto‑Québec, concrete measures for the promotion of responsible gaming are being developed and applied. Here are more than twenty measures implemented in the video lottery sector:

At the Establishments

• Minors (under 18) have no access to video lottery terminals.
• Brochures entitled "Your player profile in 8 questions", published by the Fondation Mise sur toi, are located near the terminals.
• The Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux prohibits the offering of gratuities to players to prompt them to play, such as meals or discounts on food and beverages, including alcohol.

On Video Lottery Terminals

• Menu explaining the concept of "chance" so as to counteract erroneous perceptions often held by excessive players.
• The pace of each game was decreased.
• Players can no longer stop the electronic tumblers by touching the screen.
• The player’s bank is automatically displayed on the screen in dollars so that the player can see the actual extent of his or her wagers, wins or losses.
• Length of the playing session established by the player from the outset. The session automatically stops when the playing time has expired (15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes).
• A reimbursement coupon is issued once winnings reach $500 and more, thus obliging players to take a break from the game.
• Maximum wager set at $2.50.
• Maximum wager amount per playing session at $60.
• The clock is permanently visible on-screen so that the player doesn’t lose track of time.
• The 1 866 SOS-JEUX (1 866 767-5389) help and referral hotline number displayed on all units.
• On-screen messages remind players the maximum win.
• Machines are deactivated automatically outside of the operating hours authorized by the site’s alcohol permit.
