Welcome to Espace Création, a venue for exhibitions and activities dedicated to promoting the visual arts. This site provides a special showcase to budding and established creative artists from Québec.
Espace Création revitalises and bolsters the commitment Loto‑Québec made 30 years ago to actively support contemporary creative arts, while raising the public profile of La Collection Loto‑Québec.
L'œuvre et la manière
From May 27 to September 6, 2009
Overcome by brilliant light, you find yourself in the centre of an expansive, almost surreal space. Paint brushes, so many paint brushes. Countless tubes of paint, countless colours, all scattered. Metal cans, canvases, easels. An organized mess. Here you are in this private space usually reserved for the privileged few. The space where the creative process begins. Where are you?
You're in an artist's workshop that, from May 27 to September 6, 2009, will reveal its innermost secrets at Loto‑Québec's Espace Création in the form of an exhibition entitled L'œuvre et la manière - an incursion into the secret garden of artists, a journey into the mystical world where artists dwell, the hidden world of creation. The exhibition highlights three mediums: printmaking, painting and three‑dimensional works. Featuring over sixty works from La Collection Loto‑Québec, a first at Espace Création. Also, a series of video projections, objects and artefacts linked with the creative process, personal accounts by the artists themselves and blown‑up photos of their workshops, L'œuvre et la manière is a guided journey into the artistic lives of Martin Bureau, Tom Hopkins, Alexandre Massino, Jean-Pierre Morin, Michael Smith and François Vincent.
Through the exhibition, visitors get to eavesdrop on the dialogue between the work and the artist. By entering the indefinable space that is the artist's workshop, they explore different creative settings and different atmospheres. Soon, they learn that one of the artists' strongest allies is solitude, and that, for engravers, the perfect environment is a space shared by other like minds... if only for the benefit of lowering production costs. The artists' frame of mind is palpable as visitors slip subtly into the intimate depths of the artists' world.
Now that you've read the words that describe it, come experience the sights and sounds that define it. Come discover the space where idea meets medium, where work meets method: L'œuvre et la manière.
