Le monde habité de Claude Le Sauteur
From June 18 to September 21, 2008
At Espace Création Loto-Québec, discover the surreal landscapes of Le monde habité de Claude Le Sauteur, a world where shoulders meet mountains and bodies meet forests, populated by brilliantly colourful and out-of-proportion characters with tiny, expressive heads.
Claude Le Sauteur, whose vivid imagination has earned him the prominent position he holds on Québec’s art scene today, immerses us in a cheerful universe whose power lies in a distinct complicity between form and colour. In the manner of his teacher Jean-Paul Lemieux, Claude Le Sauteur’s style is decidedly cubist, yet with an upbeat, jolly flavour. “I am a cheerful man, not a pessimist. I love laughing and joking around. That’s probably what comes out in my work,” he said.
Ever-present in this exhibition curated by the Musée de Charlevoix, Claude Le Sauteur’s humour is apparent not only in his paintings, but also in his other memorable works. The series of paintings commissioned by the Just for Laughs Festival, entitled L’univers du rire, as well as the Porsche 911S and a harpsichord painted by the artist, are just a few of the works visitors to the exhibition are sure to enjoy.
Step into Le monde habité de Claude Le Sauteur, a poetic realm created in the image of the outstanding artist who imagined it.
