This year, Loto-Québec is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its collection of contemporary visual arts. Thirty years of acquiring paintings, sculptures and artefacts by Québec artists. Thirty years of disseminating art throughout the province. Thirty years of supporting Québec’s visual arts community. Thirty years of investing in our culture. Thirty years… Something we are very proud of.
Richer for the works it acquires year after year, La Collection Loto‑Québec reveals its worth in so many ways. First, the Collection travels as part of tours and exhibits conducted throughout Québec. It also adorns the walls at casinos, gaming halls, Loto‑Québec’s regional centres and head office in Montréal, as well as a number of government departments and organizations, brightening up the daily routine of thousands of people. And last but not least, it makes use of a very special showcase, Espace Création Loto‑Québec, a venue for exhibits and activities dedicated to promoting the visual arts, which is located on the main floor of Loto‑Québec’s head office.
Developing the Collection is an integral part of Loto-Québec’s annual social contribution to Québec society. Every year, Loto-Québec earmarks 1/100th of 1% of gross sales for acquisitions, resulting in the addition of some 200 works to the Collection each year. Today, it boasts over 4,000 works by more than 1,000 artists from all over Québec. It is widely recognized as one of the largest corporate collections in the province.
A testament to Loto-Québec’s special relationship with arts and culture in the province, the Collection is something to be shared by all Quebecers. I invite you to come discover this vital link in Québec’s artistic heritage.
